Perch's Tearoom

The song title “Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen” expresses the feeling you might have strolling down the boulevards and smaller streets in the inner city of Copenhagen, but – take heed –  this isn’t Paris, London or New York. It is Copenhagen small, cozy and different from most of what you think you already know …

Let me give you three wonderful reasons to visit Copenhagen:

SMALL TOWN, GREAT SHOPPING

Even though Copenhagen isn’t enormous compared to other big cities, I think we are doing more than all right when it comes to fashion. If you like shopping, go for it. You will find the brands and chains known worldwide - from Zara and H & M to Chanel. But more interesting are the Danish designers, very chic and  successful: Danish design is the 4th largest Danish export business within the manufacturing industries (Source: Danish Fashion Institute). Designers like Munthe plus Simonsen, Bruuns Bazaar, Rützou, DAY Birger et Mikkelsen, Stella Nova, and Ivan Grundahl are definitely designers worth visiting in smaller or larger stores. If you haven’t got a lot of time to go shopping, the easiest way to check out the Danish designers is to go to Magasin, a six floor department store. You’ll find almost everything there.

EATING OUT

Copenhagen won’t let you down when it comes to restaurants. You can always find a nice place to eat for a reasonable price. You can easily find a lot of cafés serving decent and cheap food, but if you want a greater culinary experience, try Scarpetta, Vespa, Auberge, Les Trois Cochons or Cofoco, all restaurants serving gourmet food without emptying your pockets. If you still dream about Michelin quality food, it’s quite expensive in Copenhagen. This is meant as a warning, but go there anyway if you can afford it: Noma (2*), The Paul (1*), MR (1*), Herman i Nimb (1*) and Kokkeriet (1*). Bon Appetit!

TEATIME

A new trend has seen the light of day in the last two or three years in Copenhagen. Tea is becoming more and more popular, although Danes are often joking about their habit of drinking a lot, and I mean A HUGE AMOUNT of coffee. One of our most traditional teahouses is Perchs, where you can buy the best tea in town (customers are queuing up each Saturday morning). Perchs has recently established a Tea Room serving tea and cakes in the daytime with a small boutique selling specialities like lemon curd, biscuits, marmalades and clotted cream. All delicacies well worth bringing home. Other nice tea rooms include: Tea Time, Sing Teahouse, Tante T, Thé à la Menthe or Glyptoteket (the last is a wonderful museum with a charming café).

We produce a large number of articles in our Cityguides. If you want to get inspired or share some of your favourite places with us, you have come to the right place.
